Overview of Disasters Bangladesh has a long history of natural disasters. Between 1980 and 2008, it endured 219 natural disasters. The geographical position, land characteristics, Multifariousness of gutters, and the thunderstorm climate render Bangladesh largely vulnerable to natural hazards. The littoral morphology of Bangladesh influences the impact of natural hazards on the area. Bangladesh suffers from cataracts, cyclones, storm swell, swash bank corrosion, earthquake, failure, saltness intrusion, fire, and riffle. Cyclones and cataracts particularly caused massive damages. Cyclones passed in 1970, 1991, 2007, and 2009 and killed, and 190 independently.   Recent Major Disasters Cyclone Aila (May 2009) Cyclone Aila hit  Bangladesh on Monday 25 May 2009 and has produced substantial damage across areas of southern Bangladesh. It caused 190 people dead and people affected. The total damage was USD270 million. Cyclone Sidr (November 2007) Cyclone Sidr hit the littoral areas on 15 November 2007. It affected people and killed them. The profitable damage caused by the cyclone is USD2.3 billion. Cyclone (April 1991) A cyclone passed in April 1991 in Chittagong killing people and affected people. The total damage wasUD$1.78 billion   Disaster Management System Legal System Disaster Management Act (2012) was espoused after collaborative sweats given by the GoB and development and civil society actors to produce a legislative tool under which disaster and exigency operation will be accepted. The objects of the Act are substantial reduction of the overall pitfalls of disasters to a respectable position with applicable threat reduction interventions, effective perpetration of post-disaster exigency response, recuperation and recovery measures, provision of exigency philanthropic backing to the most vulnerable community people, strengthening of institutional capacity for effective collaboration of disaster operation involving government and non-government associations and establishing a disaster operation system able of dealing with all hazards for the country. As per the Rules of Business of the Government of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) is commanded to formulate programs, prepare plans, and cover and coordinate all aspects of disaster conditioning.
